On November 20-23, 2017, the fourth annual gathering of participants of English Law Week 2017 took place, held for the first time in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Leading Russian and international experts in law – academicians, judges and practicing lawyers gathered during a busy program in the two capitals to discuss the latest trends in legal consulting in Russia, England and CIS countries.
The event was organized by The Bar Council together with The Law Society of England and Wales, with support from the Russian Federal Bar Association, Moscow Bar Association, St. Petersburg Bar Association, Anglo-Russian Law Association and the British Russian Law Association (BRLA).
Managing Partner of Capital Legal Services Vladislav Zabrodin per tradition participated as moderator in the discussion “Business as usual – current models and trends in the organization of law,” dedicated to the issue of the impact technology has on legal services.
We can say with certainty that not too long ago the issue of a good broadband connection was a big one for a law firm, and a costly one at that. Today, these things are relatively low-cost and accessible for all law firms. On one hand, this ensures healthy competition. On the other, those leading all the innovations will also be the leaders in providing legal services. The only question is what these innovations should include today and how they will impact the cost of services.
Other topics of the event:
- Latest court decisions on English law in which Russian and CIS countries are parties
- Case studies of claims filed in England with Russian parties participating
- International arbitration
- Antitrust law issues – Brexit and EU rules
- Typical business – used business models and trends in law firms
- Recovering assets through bankruptcy and liquidation
- Keeping the profession noble – are the current laws suitable for these purposes?
